Exploring the world since 1965

Travel day from San José to Cahuita at the South Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. I went to the bus station yesterday to obtain two tickets and seat reservations (12$ per person) as they sell more tickets than seats are available and you don’t want to spend 4 1/2 hours standing or sitting on the floor.

Terminal Atlántico Norte

The bus station is a bit unassuming, a feature it shares with so many bus stations around the world. Our bus has seen better days but is decent enough and is half filled with tourists, the other half with Costa Ricans. And the tourists are a different breed than the group travelers, for starters we belong more to the older quarter percentile, everyone has organized this bus for themselves, lots of European backpackers.

Yesterday I went on about group travel, today in the bus we could not help but overhear a discussion between two American solo travelers and that was hard to bear. Completely unaware that everyone else in the bus was not interested in what they had to say, they overshared their travel wisdom. Both ladies exposed a mixture of confidence in their own judgement and lack of cultural awareness and real experience (from my subjective point of view) and this at a volume for everyone to hear. But hey, there is most likely a travel blog out there where I am the “star” of an episode.

And then after 5 1/2h with one hour delay we finally reached Cahuita, laid back and cool, the perfect spot to relax.

We just let things flow and did not even go after birds.

Here we are in Cahuita

I took advantage of the lack of light pollution in Cahuita and did some star shots. The southern hemisphere’s night sky is so much more filled with stars, it is incredible (technically we are still in the northern hemisphere, of course, but from here our view we into the southern is so much better than from Berlin). The following picture is just one unedited shot, I will post a stacked picture after return.

Zoom in, it is fun
