Exploring the world since 1965

After completing a memorable Planview RKO 2024 event (for the uninitiated, RKO means Revenue Kick-Off) I am about to depart from Austin- Bergstrom airport to fly via Houston to San José, Costa Rica.

Hope to be reunited tonight with Nikolaus, now seven months into his one year volunteering in Costa Rica (please have a cool beer at hand to celebrate), and tomorrow with Chris going there from Berlin via Madrid.

Southwest Airlines

We have an action packed itinerary planned with the first two weeks spent on a birding extravaganza visiting a lot of nature reserves trying to get a glimpse of at least some of the 900 Bird species of Costa Rica. Just as a reference, Europe has 700 bird species, despite being 198 times larger than Costa Rica.

There is a bit of pressure, or better performance anxiety, on us, even more so as we do this with other birders and you know how crazy these birders can be. Chris, at least, can shift to sloths, manatees and monkeys, but my metric is clear.

After this organized part, we will travel around in the Eastern Caribbean part of the country with public transport and spend time on the beach and in the jungle (Cahuita and Tortuguero). The last week we will be joined by Nikolaus again to travel the Western part with a rental car. We also visit the area where he lives and works.

Really excited to start this. I hope you will enjoy coming along.

And finally, after 7 months:

“to get a glimpse of at least some of the 900 Bird species”?? Come on, I think 500 species in 2 weeks is feasible.

Hope it was all you dreamed of.
